About The 2023 Symposium and Lectureship
The 2023 Daniel S. Blumenthal, MD, MPH Symposium will explore the role of community-powered approaches to advance healthy lifestyles via collaboration, multistakeholder-ship, and community-engagement. Globally, low-income, vulnerable, and historically marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by lifestyle risk factors[1]. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the precursor to managing chronic disease. By developing and incorporating personal actions that address diet, physical activity, weight control, treatment plan adherence, stress and coping strategies, spirituality, mind body techniques, substance abuse, and overall behavior modifications[2], communities can collectively improve health outcomes, address co-morbidities, as well as enhance vitality and longevity for current and future generations. This year’s symposium is designed to empower participants to achieve and advance optimal health through healthy lifestyles powered by policy, community, and clinical approaches.
Abstract Themes
All evidence-based research, best practices, policies, and evaluation methodology that highlight how community engagement, public health practice and research can contribute to healthy lifestyle approaches.

- Healthy lifestyle approaches based on individual experiences and scientific evidence

- Systems and environments that serve as barriers or determinants to healthy lifestyles
- Research identifying trends and data that demonstrate the variety and nuance of experiences among marginalized and understudied groups
- Policy approaches at the local, state, and national levels
- The education of health professionals on the concept of community-powered approaches to advance healthy lifestyles
