Personal Interview
After all application materials have been received, the completed application is reviewed by a screening committee and selected candidates are invited for an interview. The Committee on Admissions would like to interview every applicant who passes the initial evaluation screening process, but since this involves hundreds of applicants, it is impossible to accomplish. Only those students who, on the basis of application data, appear to merit serious consideration for admission are selected for interviews. Approximately 5 percent of all applicants will be asked to visit MSM for interviews. Invitations for interviews are sent in writing and by email, and the Office of Admissions schedules all appointments. The interview is at the applicant's expense. If an applicant is planning an interview trip that will include the Atlanta area, it is appropriate to write the Office of Admissions & Student Affairs, Morehouse School of Medicine, 720 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta, GA 30310-1495, and inquire if an interview will be requested. This inquiry should be made at least three weeks in advance of the anticipated travel. A Student Host Program is available for all interested applicants.
MSM's policies applying to the disclosure of information on student records are consistent with federal and state regulations. Applicants should be aware that letters and statements of recommendation or evaluation are prepared submitted or retained with a documented understanding of confidentially, and are not subject to inspection by applicants. To ensure that the confidentiality of materials in each applicant's file is maintained, members of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs staff will not divulge over the telephone, or in writing, information regarding a decision on an applicant. One exception to this rule is that, if written consent is given, the Office of Admissions may inform the student's premedical advisor of action taken on the application by the committee.
